Erik: Como você conheceu o horror-punk?

Shamy: A primeira vez que tive contato com o gênero "horror" foi assistindo a filmes como "Braindead", "Evil Dead" e "The Fearless Vampire Killers". A primeira vez que entrei em contato com a música "horror" foi em uma festa de amigos em meados dos anos 90. Foi o "Misfits - Collection" que estava tocando em seu aparelho de som.

Erik: O que vocês faziam antes de fundar "Angelstrife" ?
Shamy: Todos nós viemos da mesma música de fundo, e cada membro já tocou diferentes gêneros envolvidos com a música "Punk" nas bandas em que estavam antes de  Angelstrife. Chris'py tocou em uma banda chamada "Le Petite Pent", que era pura adrenalina "Punk Rock Alemão". Taz tocou em vários projetos ao longo dos anos. Eu (Shameless) tocava em uma banda de "Punk'n Roll" chamada 'Annex5' e tive participação em algumas gravações de uma banda chamada 'Last Joke'.

Erik: Conte-nos um pouco sobre cada membro da banda.
Shamy: Chris'py é o nosso Frontman, ele toca guitarra, e é o vocalista principal. Além de nós gostarmos da música "Punk", temos uma afinidade com bandas como IRON MAIDEN, BLACK SABBATH, e também com bandas como DANZIG, RAMONES, THE DAMNED...
Uma das primeiras vezes que eu e Chris'py nos encontramos, foi por volta de 2007, em um show do Blitzkid aqui na Alemanha. Depois disso, nos conhecemos melhor e nos tornamos amigos.

 Shamy: Taz morou na Austrália mas voltou em 2011 para fazer um trabalho. Sua cidade natal é Hannover. Todos os três realmente vivem e respiram música, fizeram do Punk Rock um trabalho.

Erik: No início da formação da banda, o que mudou na vida de cada um de vocês após os primeiros shows?!
Shamy: Os primeiros shows que fizemos eram puro "kick ass horror-punk" em cada perspectiva.
Pequenos espaços subterrâneos, pessoas bêbadas, amplificadores de guitarra barulhentos.
Nós realmente gostamos de tocar em lugares pequenos, quando se tem pessoas na frente de você, observando e celebrando a música que você faz. Os primeiros shows que fizemos foram muito espontâneos, em cada caso, às vezes mesmo sem ter um setlist. Hoje em dia temos um setlist e estamos pensando na qualidade de som.

Erik: Sabe-se que cada banda tem aqueles momentos estranhos e até mesmo sobrenaturais;
conte-nos qual foi a mais estranha experiência que você já viveu!
Shamy: Um dos primeiros shows que fizemos foi um show junto com Blitzkid em nossa cidade natal em 2011, isso foi meio desses momentos sobrenaturais que você está falando. A banda subiu ao palco na frente de 200 pessoas.
Um dos momentos mais estranhos que tivemos foi um show com apenas 6 músicas em uma noite de quarta-feira no Smokey Clube em Hamburgo, St. Pauli. No camarim ou local para se preparar para o show, tinham 150 pessoas, dividimos a noite com cinco outras bandas de diferentes gêneros. Nosso ex-guitarrista quebrou o amplificador e começou a sair fumaça, você podia sentir o cheiro. Mas felizmente o show poderia continuar com um segundo ampli de uma outra banda.

Erik: O Horror-punk cresceu de forma impressionante, mas ainda é um gênero pouco conhecido
Você acha que o público do gênero é pequeno ou o gênero não tem o respeito merecido?
Shamy: Bem, a cena "horror" tem uma longa tradição na Alemanha. Para mim, eu acho que o melhor ainda está por vir e todos nós esperamos que o gênero chamado horrorpunk vai crescer e crescer. Hoje em dia bandas como The Other ou Blitzkid já tocaram em grandes festivais, como o "Wacken". Então, aos meus olhos, o gênero não é tão pequeno.
Eu acho que é uma questão de promoção e envolvimento de dinheiro. Com esse apoio por trás, o gênero teria mais aceitação por parte do público "horror" do mundo a fora.

Erik: Qual é a inspiração para escrever as músicas de "Angelstrife"?
Shamy: Tomamos experiências da vida real como fonte de inspiração para escrever as músicas, mas também usamos ficção para a inspiração.

Erik: Qual é o principal item que você usa para compor ? As músicas são ótimas, eu não consigo parar de ouvir.
Shamy: A guitarra é o principal item que usamos para escrever nossa música. Aqui e ali, usamos idéias de melodia para a letra. Mas a música de violão e guitarra vem definitivamente pela primeira vez na composição. O melhor exemplo é a música chamada "Welcome To Hell" ...... totalmente trabalho em equipe desde o básico de música para as letras. Letras escritas por Shameless, cantada por Chris'py, Guitarra, Baixo... escrito por toda a banda.

Erik:Desde o início da banda, que foi o melhor show que você fez?
Shamy: Difícil dizer o que lhe dá apenas um show para nomear. Tantos shows de mencionar ... Bremen em 2011 e 2013 foi realmente excelente! Hannover principalmente... é bom ter amigos no show. Leipzig 2012 foi um grande show e Bautzen no Halloween 2012 show grande e brutal. O Viva La Horror Show no Verão de 2012 foi o primeiro show que fizemos com o nosso novo baterista Taz IM.

Erik: O que podemos esperar da banda para os próximos anos?
Alguma novidade?

Erik: As you have known the horror punk?
Shamy: The first time i came in touch with the horror genre was by watching movies like „braindead“, „Evil Dead“ and „The Fearless Vampire Killers“. The first time i came in touch with the music was on a friends party back in the mid 90ies. It was the Misfits – Collection he had in his recorder i think.

Erik: What did you do before founding "Angelstrife"?
Shamy: We all come from the same music background, and each member did play different styles of punk music in the bands he did before Angelstrife. Chris'py did rock years before in a band named 'Le Petite Pent', which was pure adrenaline german punkrock. Taz did play in various projects over the years. Shameless did play in a punk'n roll band named 'Annex5' and had a short record apperances in band named 'Last Joke'.

Erik: Tell us a little about each band member.
Shamy: Chris'py is our Fronter, he does all guitars and main vokills. He definitly comes from a punkrock background, same like Shameless. But between Punk, they're kind of „Metalheads“. Both are having an affinity for bands like IRON MAIDEN, BLACK SABBATH but also into bands like DANZIG, RAMONES or THE DAMNED.
One of the first times Chris'py and Shameless met, was back in 2007, on a BLITZKID Show, here in germany. After that they become friends.

 Shamy:  Taz lived in Australia back in 2011 to do a job. Nowadays his hometown is Hannover. All three are really into music and all living the lifestyle of punkrock ethic.

Erik: At the beginning of the formation of the band, a lot changes over time and the shows performed, which changed the life of every one of you after the first few shows?!
Shamy: The very first shows we did was pure kick ass horror punk in every perspective. Small underground venues, drunk people, noisy guitar amps.
We really enjoy playing small venues when you have people in front of you,watching and celebtaring the music you make. The first shows we did were very spontaneous in every case, sometimes even without having a setlist. Nowadays we do have a setlist and we're thinking more about the sound, we wanna to have. Its all about the sound, you know.

Erik: It is known that every band has those odd moments and even supernatural; to tell us what that strange experience you've ever lived?!
Shamy: One of the very first shows we did was a BLITZKID supporting gig in our hometown on their german leg of the BLITZKID european tour 2011. That was kind of these odd moments you're talking about. The band hit the stage in front of 200 people.
One of the stranges moments we had was a show for only 6 songs on a wednesday night in smokey club in hamburg, st.pauli. No backstage room or place to prepare for the show, 150 people, and a sold out night with 5 other bands from different genres. Our former guitar player broke the amp and the amp starts smoking and you could smell somethings burning with the first tones. But luckly the show could go on with a second amp from an other band.

Erik: Horror punk has grown impressively, but it's still a genre little known you think that the public genre that is small or does not have the respect they deserved?
Shamy: Well, the horror scene has a long tradition in germany. To me, i think, the best is yet to come and we all hope that the genre named horrorpunk gonna grow and grow. Nowadays there're horrorpunk bands like THE OTHER (Wacken) or BLITZKID (Mera Luna) who did play big festivals. So, in my eyes, the genre isnt that small some people maybe think it is.
I think its a question of promotion and money involment. With that support behind the genre would get more acceptance by the audience outside the horror world.

Erik: What is the inspiration to write songs for "Angelstrife"?
Shamy: We take real life experiences as inspiration to write Angelstrife music, but also do some fiction for inspiration.

Erik: What is the main item that you use to compose?!The songs are great, I can not stop listening
Shamy: The guitar is the main item that we use to write our music. Here and there we use melody ideas for the lyrics. But music by guitar and bass guitar comes definitly first in Angelstrife songwriting. So it runs mostly „hand in hand“ someone comes with a riff or a beat, another one with the lyrics. Best example is a song named „Welcome To Hell“......totally teamwork from the music basics to the lyrics. Lyrics written by Shameless, sung by Chris'py, Guitar Line, Bass Line written by the whole band.

Erik:Since the beginning of the band, which was the best show you've done?
Shamy: Hard to say giving you only one show to name. So many shows to mention...Bremen Shows in 2011 and 2013 were really great! Hannover mostly nice to have your friends on the show. Leipzig 2012 was a Killer and Bautzen on Halloween 2012 brutal great. The Viva La Horror Show in Summer 2012 was the first show we did with our new drummer Taz I.M.

Erik: What band booking for the coming years? Any news?
Shamy: We have some interesting shows to come over the next months. We've done a video clip to a song titeled „Welcome To Hell“. Check out all dates, video and merch informations:www.angelstrife.com

Rod Usher - The Other Live 2008

Erik: Tell us how you met Horror Punk.

Rod: Obviously it started with the Misfits. I found out about them through the Metallica-Coverversions of “Last Caress” and “Green Hell” in 1987 and then started listening to the originals. My first Misfits show was in 1997. Back then nobody know the word “Horrorpunk” but my label Fiendforce released a CD called “This is Horrorpunk” and then the word became well known for all bands that mix Punk-Rock with Horror-Themes.

Erik: In addition to his work with the band
you have more projects and work involved with the Horror ?
Rod: Yeah, I write for “Virus”, Germany’s biggest Horror-Magazine, I run Fiendforce Records, the first ever label for Horror Punk and I collect books about Horror. I also book shows/tours for Horror-bands and started the “Hell Nights”-Party and Tour.

The Other 2002-2006 Line-up

Erik: At the beginning of his career, before "The Other",
we know you had a Misfits tribute band. How was that experience?
Rod: Great, because back then we were the only Misfits-Coverband around and we played many shows. People loved it. I was even invited on stage by Jerry Only to sing “Skulls” as the lead singer with them. Good times. But after a while we wanted to write our own songs and that’s how The Other started in 2002.

The Other 2006-2010 Line-up

Erik: This is the band number 1 in europe, you think you have grown very large and reached a worldwide audience since its beginning?
Rod: We were lucky because at the time we started with THE OTHER there weren’t many Horror Punk bands around. Especially in Europe. So we got a lot of attention and played big shows with Misfits, DRI, The 69 Eyes, etc. right from the beginning. Ten years later we are probably one of the most popular Horror Punk bands in the world and have released five albums and played all over the place from USA to Russia with lots of great bands and at huge festivals. It’s still awesome to be doing this!

Sarge von Rock recently had to leave the band, because he moved away with his family. We have TWO great new guitarists that we will introduce soon.

Erik: All consider "The Misfits" best Horror band of all time (we know that)
Currently, what bands do you consider the most important of its kind ?
Rod: The Misfits were revolutionary for Horror Punk in the Danzig and Graves eras. A lof of other bands have been around and have been great but quit. Like Blitzkid who were one of the most popular Horror Punk bands as well. These days there aren’t that many bands around any more.
I can think of Calabrese, Wednesday 13, Nim Vind, Rezurex and Bloodsucking Zombies from outer Space right now. The Fright, Stellar Corpses and The Spookshow are names to remember as well. Sadly enough there aren’t that many good new bands around. I can only think of Angelstrife and Hellgreaser from Germany but I haven’t heard much else for a while.

The Devil You know - 2012

Erik: With their new album released in 2012, You are already on tour to promote it Intend to do a world tour, or even play here in south america?!

Rod: Man, we would love to tour in South America. It’s been a dream for years. We get so many messages from listeners in South- and Central America that we really need to come. We just have to find a booking agency to book a tour for us…

Erik: Can you tell us a little about the band's future?
Has any news coming out there ?!
Rod: Well, the biggest news is probably that we have two new guitarists. We also play a few festivals this year, some with big bands like Soulfly, Sodom, Slayer, Motörhead, etc. But what we really need to do is write songs for the next album in 2014!

My suggestion for anybody who wants to start a Horror band: 

Don’t just rip off the Misfits and put black & white Make-up on your face. Take the roots of Horror Punk and do something original. Everything else has been done. You have to break new grounds to make it.

Erik: Olá Rod, vamos começar a entrevista...
Conte-nos como você conheceu Horror Punk.
Rod: Obviamente que começou com o Misfits. Eu os descobri através do Metallica com as músicas covers "Last Caress" e "Green Hell" em 1987, em seguida começei a ouvir as músicas originais.

Rod: Sim, eu escrevo para "Virus" a maior revista sobre Horror da Alemanha. Trabalho na Gravadora "FiendForce", A primeira e melhor gravadora Horror Punk, coleciono livros de terror. Eu também trabalho com turnês para bandas de Horror e assim começou a “Hell Nights - Party and Tour"
como uma companhia de turismo.

The Other 2002-2006 Line-up

Erik: No início de sua carreira, antes de "The Other",
nós sabemos que você tinha uma banda tributo ao Misfits. Como foi essa experiência?
Rod: Ótimo, porque naquela época nós éramos a única banda cover dos Misfits e nós fizemos muitos shows. As pessoas adoraram. Eu fui até convidado no palco por Jerry Only para cantar "Skulls".
Bons tempos. Mas depois de um tempo, queria escrever nossas próprias músicas,
e então em 2002, The Other começou.

The Other 2006-2010 Line-up

Erik: Sabemos que essa é a banda de Horror número 1 em toda Europa, você acha que a banda tem crescido muito e alcançou um grande público mundial desde o seu início?

Rod: Tivemos sorte porque no momento em que começamos com "The Other" não havia bandas de Horrorpunk por perto. Especialmente na Europa. 

Então, nós recebemos muita atenção, e fizemos shows com Misfits, DRI, The 69 Eyes, etc... desde o início. 

Dez anos depois, somos provavelmente uma das bandas mais populares de Horrorpunk do mundo, lançamos cinco álbuns, e tocamos em todo lugar dos EUA até a Rússia, 

al lado de grandes bandas e em festivais enormes. Ainda é incrível estar fazendo isso!

Erik: Todos consideram "The Misfits" a melhor banda de Horror de todos os tempos (Nós sabemos)
Atualmente, quais bandas você considera as mais importantes para o Horror ? (além de The Other)
Rod: The Misfits, eram revolucionários para o Horror Punk nas eras Danzig e Graves.
Muitas outras bandas por ai tem sido Grandes, mas algumas desistiram.
Como Blitzkid que eram uma das bandas de Horror mais populares do mundo. Atualmente não há muitas bandas por perto.  Mas existem algumas grandes bandas que eu posso dizer: Calabrese, Wednesday 13, Nim Vind, Rezurex and Bloodsucking Zombies from outer Space...
The Fright, Stellar Corpses and The Spookshow São nomes a serem lembrados também.
Lamentavelmente não existem muitas bandas novas boas ao redor.
Só consigo pensar em Angelstrife e Hellgreaser da Alemanha, mas eu estou sem ouvir nada há algum tempo.

The Devil You know - 2012

Erik: Com o novo álbum lançado em 2012
Vocês já estão em turnê para promover o álbum ou pretendem fazer uma turnê mundial, ou até mesmo tocar aqui na América do Sul?!
Rod: Cara, nós adoraríamos fazer uma turnê na América do Sul. Tem sido um sonho há anos.
Recebemos muitas mensagens de ouvintes do Sul e América Central, é o que nós realmente precisamos para ir.
Nós apenas temos que encontrar uma agência interessada para levar a gente em turnê...

Erik: Você pode nos contar um pouco sobre o futuro da banda?
Tem alguma notícia ou novidade ?!
Rod: Bem, a maior novidade é que temos dois novos guitarristas. Nós também vamos tocar em alguns festivais este ano com grandes bandas como Soulfly, Sodom, Slayer, Motörhead, etc... Mas o que realmente precisamos fazer é compor músicas para o próximo álbum em 2014!

[Entrevista atualizada - Junho/2014, comunicado sobre a formação da banda]

A formação da banda passou por mudanças nos últimos meses.

Viktor Sharp infelizmente deixou a banda no inicio de 2014 

e foi substituído por Aaron Torn:

Outro imprevisto aconteceu, e recentemente Jack Saw deixou a banda.

Atualmente a banda está planejando shows, relançamentos de Cds e em breve irá anunciar o novo guitarrista, fiquem conectados através do Facebook oficial !
